Description

The Pesce trade is too smart. I’ve seen lots of Canes fans saying the conversation starts with Nylander, but I really don’t think so. I have a feeling if the Leafs could get that 3rd to a 2nd, this trade works. History shows that top-4 UFA D are worth à prospect, a 1st and the second is a good sweeter for Carolina to use those assets to upgrade what they want. I feel like Robertson’s work ethic fits Rod’s style, too.

After clearing some D off in trades - $5m for a veteran defenseman who plays a relatively steady game would help a young up-and-coming team. Gotta think some other team would be open to giving up a 2nd and getting a 4th back.

I don’t mind Brodie on the third pair, but I’m not paying a 2nd to have him for one year. Also, you’re forgetting to send a draft pick to acquire Graves rights. Many teams are calling for Ryan Graves.

That being said, if you’re adding Graves and Pesce to the Top 4, you’re going to need to free up cap space. That makes Brodie a cap dump and the return will be pedestrian.
