While I appreciate your standpoint on this, I completely disagree. 8 years of control over Bedard vs 3 years of control over McDavid, for a rebuilding team that, even with McDavid, is nowhere near being a playoff team, the risk is ALL on CHI here. Whereas EDM would be receiving 8 years of control over Bedard, $20.6M in cap space, and they already have a very stacked roster, even without McDavid.

This just wouldn't happen. Makes no sense for either team. Especially if CHI is the one doling out extra assets in the deal.
