Just a reminder that Ekholm was pretty much dealt for Tyson Barrie and two firsts. Before being traded he was in pace for a 25 point year, Matt Grzelcyk had almost thirty this year while being a plus 46. Nuge had 53 PP points this year and if he wasn’t on that amazing power play, he would be an a little above average top six guy. Taylor Hall replaces Nuge and will put up somewhat similar production if he gets the same opportunities. Oilers are known for overpaying for defensive men and that’s what that trade is showing.

Rnh has 6 years left on his deal making under 6 mil per. Hall has 2 years at 6 mil and gryz has 1 at 3.6. So Edmonton gives up the better player, the cheaper player, the player signed long term, the player they drafted all for a year of a defenseman they don't need cus they already traded for ekholm and a winger they already had and didn't perform in Edmonton. It's a very bad deal for Edmonton. There's no way around it.
