Description

The current plan seems to be to use Wennberg as a placeholder until Wright takes the 2C spot, which is all good, but then I saw the Arizona news (RIP to all 4 Arizona fans including Keller's dad) and thought that if players did decide to leave, which should Seattle pursue. I decided to focus on Barrett Hayton, who could be a great middle 6 center for the team long term, being a potential Gourde replacement and can stand in on the 2nd line until Wright gets there, or, best case scenario, Hayton becomes a cornerstone middle 6 piece for the team long term. Worst case scenario, he regresses back to bust material and plays 13th forward or crushes it in the AHL, which would be a big loss considering you spent a 1st, but the 2nd should at least soften the blow, and Wennberg was mostly a stopgap anyways. As mentioned below, I understand I probably overpaid, and I don't think Seattle would do this anyways due to the risk, I just think if it all works out, this move is great long term.

I don't know Hayton's current value, considering he's been considered a bust for the past few years, but also had a pretty good season this year and might be able to fetch a bit more than he might've at the start of the season. I might be overpaying but I think that the potential chance of Hayton having a breakout season forces Seattle to slightly overpay.

Can't see WPG doing that one...DeMelo was our 2nd best defenceman behind Morrissey this year. He's extremely valuable to WPG and would cost a lot more to acquire.
