My idea here is that the Leafs would ask for a legit top 6 forward, a young player with potential (either defence or forward), and multiple picks.

Since Arizona is gaining Matthews, and they have Cooley and Geekie in the system, I figured they would be okay with trading Hayton. (I mean I'd be totally okay with Cooley though lol).

This only works with Matthews agreeing to sign at least a 5 year extension in Arizona.

Arizona takes Murray to buy him out as part of the deal, Murray agrees to waive his M-NTC (which likely includes Arizona) as long as he is bought out so he can choose his next destination.

No he wouldn't get that 6th OA from a team that isn't an Auston Matthews rental away from competing. He would get a return similar to Erik Karlsson (and no that does not include 3rd overall because San Jose was not a bottom feeder when they traded for him)

That does not raise his trade value. Arizona would be the team attempting to sign him to an extension not Toronto

And yes, it does raise his value. Would you rather have McDavid for 1 year, or get him to extend for another 8.

Huh? You don't get this. That still doesn't raise his trade value. The only thing Toronto can do is refuse to let teams talk to him and his agent. They can't tax a team for talking to him or his agent before completing a trade. Toronto is not at all involved in any extension discussions
