its very clear the leafs "core 4" wont all be returning. JT is probably unable to move that contract, imo Marner is the best of the 4 by miles and is untouchable, that leaves the leafs whipping boy nylander (who has actually been good this year) and matthews.

I think its most likely Matthews that gets traded as his status heading into 1year till UFA is scary, doesnt look like he will sign in Toronto and if he does its speculated hes demanding 15+million , which is massive massive ask for this questionable playoff performance and Toronto cant afford it. Seattle has infinite cap space and has proven these playoffs that they are a real team that can play and need some more firepower, matthews gets reunited with leaf legend McCann (bet this one still stings letting him go for nothing - had to include this for everyone who thinks dubas is flawless)

I do not think willy will be traded, however a big shakeup is needed and arguably the biggest need is a solid solution in goal. and who better than vezina winner hellebuyck who seems like his time in winnipeg may be done (along with many others).

the Liljgren trade - if he couldn't be a constant player on the roster this year in the playoffs, he never will in Toronto, hes cheap effective young player and stephenson is a cap causality in vegas, who needs to shed cap badly.

as far as the FA signings thats more a fill in spots as needed, however i think the Leafs should and will take a run a Bertuzzi (idk if id give him 6x6m but as a UFA some team will). ROR i think will resign, not sure how much of a discount compared to his last deal it will be.
