My 2 cents here, but I think 3 years for Monahan is poor risk management. He's still pretty good, but his body is broken... 1 year tryout would be less risky.
LTIR at worst? Maybe, but he would still count as an active contract and Mtl has already 48/50 with all the young guns coming up.

I feel like Monahan just isn't a fit for the team at this point in time especially with tge injuries. Sure he's an effective player when he is playing but that may be up in the air if he even plays half a season. Habs should look at internal youth such as beck, a 1 year prove it deal or just keep Dvorak for that spot. Point is Monahan is a risk and frankly could use the cap elsewhere such as another Monahan deal to take on a bad contract for picks or prospects.

I agree... but I don't like Dvorak game since he is with MTL... can't help it to fire him!

Yeah but he's signed next season he may be in a Dubois deal but if they wait on Dubois he's most likely there for next season and traded as a Rental at the 2025 deadline.

That's why I include him on the Goalie trade... to bring some value and depth at C.. where I think Phily needs some

I highly doubt Monahan has 200+ games in his body until 2025.
I feel he has the kind of issues that keep him week-to-week for months at a time. Just like coming back from severe concussion. The kind of issues that doesn't have a clear finite healing process.
In this case, he would become a dead weight. Seems like a great guy, sad that his body left the chat.

LITR don't cost nothing on the cap... and we do have little room until 2025 big signature like Guhle, Slafs or Bedard tears of joy
if you think we don't have enough cap-room, then I won't sign back Gurianov

I know LTIR is off cap money-wise, the problem might be the actual number of active contracts. You have a limit of 50 at any time. Habs are currently at 48.
Also, Gurianov seems a better option, at least when looking at risk management. He's younger, in better shape and would cost less than Monahan. Even then, I wouldn't sign him for more than 2 seasons. In case he just falls off NHL level, he wouldn't be a liability for long. If he is better than expected, you have the option to flip him at deadline.
Conclusion : I would sign Gurianov to a 1 or 2 year deal and give Monahan a Pro tryout at camp to see if he's healthy.

My goal was to have him on this roster in 2 years as I think if healthy, he is a MUST to be in the top tier team... Otherwise a young guy need to step up as I don't want to have Dach or PLD on the 3line.

He would probably be Byron 2.0

Yep, good comparison.
Poor Ol' Byron is dead cap now. A lost asset.

no monahan other than a one yeaR DEAL and that is only if there are happy with what caused his injury because they know.... if they get dubois no reason to sign monahan... if you dont get dubois for next season then maybe you sign monahan for 3 mil and one season
