Its tough to say mismanagement post cup. When a team is going all in to contend, the younger players especially skilled ones are going to be left out. They aren't ready for full top 6 roles and their games can't fill a bottom 6 role.

Forsberg is one of the worst trades in NHL history but we likely don't get Oshie if we never trade him and who knows what happens.

Burky and Stephenson were stuck in the bottom 6 with no PP time and they could not fill those roles. Wish we had both but the moves made sense at the time with our lineup.

Siegs was similar, he was the odd man out which sucks because he is a good top 4 defenseman now.

Vitek and Sammy cannot carry the load, both are benefitting from playing on good teams this season. Sammy can get there but Vitek is maxed out at this point.

The Vrana trade is really the only mismanaged asset here, he and Lavi never clicked and that trade was bad to begin with, it obviously didn't work out for him in Detroit but I bet he gets it going in Stl. Mantha isnt great and its not all his fault but he's been a major disappointment.

we can get into all the details but the point is that the caps getting only 1 cup during the ovi era is kinda inexcusable. yes they got their 1 and thats great... shouldve been at least 2 or 3

I agree on that for sure. Maybe we can get lucky and grab another before Big Man is done but I doubt it.
