Description
Would be interesting to see the Wings go after Karlsson.

Not overly familiar with how Wings view players added in trade. But seems like something that could jumpstart them to real contention and still allow them to keep Larkin and push forward to contention. Only real issue I see is they’re going to need another top 6 center eventually.

Went wild and signed ROR. But I have a feeling that may make some of their RFA contracts a bit harder to fit in so it may be a bad idea.

Yeah this is a good trade, especially the no retention part
which means it's too good to be true

I imagine Det want's their 23' pick. They aren't out of the rebuild and doubt they want to make this kind of a splash

Meant to have top 10 protection on it. Also, wasn’t sure about value given the no retention. But it gives SJ more pieces and it gives the Wings an elite defense or at least close too it.

This is an upgrade for sure, but feels like a lot for Karlsson unretained. Walman doesn't take a bridge deal. More likely a long-term deal at like $4.5-5M. You can afford Raymond and Seider with Vrana/Perron/Kubalik coming off the books, but how can you afford to replace them? Seems short-sighted.

Friedman already said that Walman and Detroit are nearing a deal. And it's probably going to be close to an 8 year extension.

No thanks on Karlsson at full value. He wants to win and i doubt he'd waive for Detroit.

Walman hasn’t earned that type of a contract yet. He has no NHL success or at least just minimal success prior to this season. I honestly wasn’t sure if that contract was too high.

Wings have more than enough depth in their pool and they can supplement their bottom 6 with vets, bottom line checkers. The main issue I saw was who becomes the 2C in a couple of years, also is it enough fire power?

Realistically the pieces they’re moving aren’t too terribly important to them going forward. But they’re still good pieces. They’ve just kind of established their core already

They’re giving him an 8 year at 27 after a good half of a season? He’s been great for them but man that’s risky.

He and Seider have been analytically like the 2nd best pairing in the league at this point. He instantly turned around Seider's slow start with Chiarot this season. I think Walman is underrated and I'm pretty sure the reports are they're going long-term with his extension, and I actually think that's the right move.

Good for him, liked him when he was with the Blues. Just never had a spot for him and he wasn’t ready yet.

I just didn’t think a guy that age would be offered that much term without a longer track record

My guess is a 6x4.5 which I personally think is good for both sides.

I saw it on Reddit, Where it said that both Walman and Larkin were nearing 8 year extensions. I know Yzerman was high on Jake going back to his junior days. But if true 8 years is extremely risky considering all the LD that Detroit has in it's pipeline.

I have to agree with most on here, this is fair is sharks retain say 2.5 mil but straight up remove the 1st and 1 of the prospects.

I thought I read that Walman was close to a 3 year deal at 3.75. I think a 4x4.25 is more likely, but either scenario works.

As much as I like Walman, he could be the odd man out with the LD pipeline getting close. Edvinsson, Johansson, Wallinder, Buium. All but Buium are likely top 4 , and Chiarot is probably going to be an overpaid 7th D as early as next year.
