I'd probably do that.

I'd offer up a D prospect on the LD side first. Detroit is a little better off in the pipeline on LD than RD. Vancouver's D prospects are pretty subpar across the board on both sides so they'd likely be happy with another D prospect. Viro or McIssac. But yea. I'd part with Lindstrom and a 3rd to make this work.

Yeah something will eventually have to give with our plethora of LD prospects. I just don't see a 33 year old rental Schenn getting Viro. Connor Clifton is a UFA RD this summer. 😁

Eventually Edvinsson & Wallinder will be the regulars occupying 2 of the 3 spots on LD...3rd LD guy will probably be a vet like Maatta vs a guy like Viro. He's a good young player but maybe just not good enough to beat out Detroit's other strong D prospects. In Vancouver he'd have a better chance to crack an NHL lineup one day.

Sebrango seems like a future trade piece. He'll be a 3rd pair D. Then there's Johansson. I'm not sure about him.

Sebrango, McIssac, Johansson, Viro. Take your pick. Package one of them and a 3rd for Schenn. Only one of them may one day be a Red Wing, Certainly not all of them. But Schenn could really help get the Wings in the playoffs now and end this drought. Even if Detroit draws Boston in the 1st round and gets absolutely pumped, that playoff game experience alone is more valuable for the team than any of those prospects and the 3rd. But in the playoffs anything can happen. If Detroit plays A++ and Boston struggles even just the slightest they could pull off a Columbus Tampa type upset. Just gotta get in.

I'm on board for acquiring Schenn. He'd really solidify our 3rd D pair. Yzerman knows you build teams in stages. No matter which year we make the playoffs we'll have to learn how to win. It doesn't happen overnight. We learned that in the 90s.

It's possible the price for Schenn would be higher than a 3rd and prospect. As Schenn's cap hit is just so low that it makes it easier for the teams against the cap to bid on him as well potentially raising the price.

Another option that I would not be opposed to is a reunion with Nick Jensen from Washington. Detroit is very familiar with him and he with Detroit. I honestly liked him in Detroit but understood trading him at the time. He could probably be had for a 3rd and prospect as his cap hit is a bit tougher for other teams to make work.

I considered Jensen but was told by CFACGM Caps fans he's getting back a 1st. No thanks.

I don’t know if Schenn would sign an extension with the Wings, but if he did, that would be perfect. I have heard only good things about Schenn and he would be a great mentor for Edvinsson / Johansson next season.
