I don't think this trade works cap wise, even with the retention on Domi. TOR currently has 4M in space, but I can see Murray coming back prior to the playoffs.

It's not a terrible trade though.

If anyone pays a 1st for McCabe, it'll be a mistake.

Chicago riding the coattails of costs for Gavrikov and Chychrun. Maybe they get it, maybe they don't. However, I sincerely hope the Kings aren't the ones that pay that price. I'd absolutely say no to this if I was the Kings GM.

He's a top-four d-man with term. He's going to attract at least a first, more if the hawks retain salary.

"Top-4 Dman" needs to be taken with a grain of salt here. He's playing top-4 minutes on the third worst team in the league (as of today's standings). That doesn't instantly make him a "top-4 Dman" for a team that would be trading for him.

McCabe has a career high of 4 goals and 22 points, so he's not a dynamic back-end guy. He's not a huge snarling, shut-down type like Chiarot or Gavrikov, topping out at 6'1". He has ZERO playoff experience. And he has only played for bottom feeding teams where he should have been getting chances to be "the guy" for them.

Sooo... no, I wouldn't pay a first, and I certainly wouldn't pay more. Even if there was retained salary.

Again, that doesn't mean somebody won't pay that. Overpays tend to happen at the deadline. I just hope it's not the Kings, and if I was in charge I'd hang up the phone the minute "First Round" came out of Davidson's mouth.
