Seems to me a trade would be better suited in the off-season. For this year they should just go get Gostisbehere.

Friedman is definitely right that they would need to be getting Karlsson at 6-6.5m. I wonder if Grier would bit the bullet.

Going forward:

The Sharks will be on the hook for ~17m/39m of Karlsson's contract.
Barrie is owed 5m in salaries next year.

If they can sign Bouchard for 4.25mx4+, then it would be like they turned Karlsson at 11.5mx4 cap hit and 39m in future salaries into Bouchard 9.25mx4 + Barrie 4.5x1 + JP+ 2023 1st + Bourgault

I wonder what this looks like for next year for the Oilers. Can barely make the cap work for this year.

Bouchard for me is untouchable

At age 23, Erik Karlsson had 37 5v5 points in 1621 TOI (1.37 P/60). That's a very high production rate for a defender at that age.

At age 21, Evan Bouchard had 31 5v5 points in 1308 TOI (1.42 P/60).

that Broberg-Bouchard pairing has too much upside for either one to be traded, They are going to be by far our best pair in the next 2-3 years

The retention is probably going to be what kills any potential EK65 trade. 4.5 years of retention is a lot. I can understand it from both the Sharks and Oilers viewpoints.

Yeah, I think they should keep him too, I do wonder though how they will afford him though going forward. I do wonder how they would keep him though in terms of signing him. Unless they move Foegele or Yamamoto, would be difficult to keep him and Holloway perhaps.

I honestly, only think this works if they dump Foegele and JP elsewhere, and include Yamamoto+ Barrie in the trade lol. Then they can take him at a higher cap hit, would become problematic down the line though.
