Don't spend all of your everything trying to bring in Meier.
I like the Bjugstad trade, but drop the retention and the 5th, it's not really necessary .

I think some posters are vastly over estimating Meier's value...
SJ will likely get a similar return to what Vancouver got for Horvat. Sure Horvat is a year older but he plays the significantly more valuable position and has produced slightly more PPG over the course of his career (and this season) than Meier. I say Meier goes for a 1st, B+ to A- prospect and a middle six forward.

NHL Teams can add 2 firsts, 1 second and a third pick and re-coup that should they later trade Timo or he is offer sheeted.
Multiple teams are bidding so one would assume to win the Timo sweepstakes you are going to have to up the offer.
If Boston or Toronto could guarantee a final appearance then any cost would be worth it.

McD has 3 more years left on his contract after this season. Most likely none of the picks in the next 4 years will be a key player to help the Oilers.

Leafs organization appears to be happy with being the 4th, 5th or 6th place team during the regular season.
