Gotcha. Haven't seen many trades with Schmid in there. Maybe you can tell me more about his upside/potential.

He was solid this year during his brief stint in the NHL. I think once Blackwood’s out, NJ will stay committed to Schmid.

How about Nico Daws?

I think NJ would consider it

First, in a vacuum, would much rather have Bonino than Reimer.

Second, Devils should not be trading goalies or goalie prospects. One of Schmid or Daws will likely be our backup next year. We could offer Blackwood, but he doesn’t have a ton of value at this point (maybe mid-to-late pick). That leaves Tyler Brennan, Jakob Malek, and Cole Brady as options. Brennan is very young and still in juniors. So a lot of risk there. Malek has been playing well in Liiga, but doesn’t have a long track record at that level. And Brady is a back-up at UMass. I would take Chrona over all three…and I think SJ should focus on making sure he signs this summer.

Agree maybe Daws if they are getting either a UFA 1b or adding a waiver-exempt #3 that can play in AHL (either in trade return, or elsewhere).

One idea may be to include Daws and send a less proven guy like Mann or Chrona in return. Need to preserve some depth.

Sharks most likely don't want anything to do with Blackwood. I think we sign Chrona, get rid of Dell, Makiniemi goes up to the big boy club, then it's a battle with Chrona & Mann. But, it might be good to have another goalie in there like Daws to create more competition and be there in case of injury to the top 2 goalies. We can always place Chrona on our ECHL team the way we do with Mann to keep him active and get minutes.

I doubt Daws or Schmid is our backup next year. I do think that Blackwood will be moved for a 2nd or 3rd during the offseason, but I think a UFA signing of Reimer, Talbot, Varlamov, Halak, etc is more realistic

Maybe. I’d say Schmid and Daws get 20+ starts combined. So maybe they begin season as #3 and #4 and but could even be starters next year. Or could be in AHL all year. Who knows really…goalies are a mystery box.

I would think adding Daws would be worthwhile, but Chrona is probably better option than Malek or Brennan.

There are also some good undrafted free agents out there like Nikolayev (KHL) and Perets (NCAA)
