Description

The Kraken have gotten their deadline sealing started, shoring up their defense by trading for Jaycob Megna. I think this is the type of move they should be making this season. The team is better than expected but still building for the future, so smaller depth moves rather than a big splash is the better path to take in my opinion.

Megna is in the midst of his best season to date and is playing consistent minutes for the Sharks. In Seattle, he’ll provide some reliable defensive depth, filling in for injuries and competing with Carson Soucy and Cale Fleury for playing time. Megna is also signed for next season, which is a nice bonus. Hopefully he does well for the Kraken!

Looking at Megna’s numbers this year vs last season and his ratings, it would say yes he is being getting carried by Karlsson. Also he has a much higher GA rate this season in 5v5 play vs last with almost twice the O zone start percentage.

He is a 6th defender playing well up because SJ doesn’t have a better option

Megna’s defensive numbers are way worse than last year’s and he is playing in the O zone twice as much. Since defensive metrics are derived from chances / goals against vs chances / goals for, yes indeed Karlsson is carrying him. Karlsson is providing all the difference in the chances and goals for.

Also not surprisingly Megna and Karlsson’s per 60 rates in 5v5 are really close.
