In the description I mention Kakko or Laffy or a 1st plus Kravstov. My gut says, based on everything I've read and all the hockey I've watched, NYR is the most likely landing spot for Kane. Doesn't mean it will happen, and doesn't mean one of the 3 options I've outlined is the outcome, but they are possibilities whether fans from either side like it or not. This isn't about what I want to see or not, it's just objective based on reporting and neither your subjective opinion nor mine play a role in it.

You mean these sources that are 95 % of the time wrong (at the best of times) generally making these rumours up just to stir up more hockey conversations to make more money, you mean those "expects" with their "sources" probably they call up NYR management saying if Kane landed in your lap with 50 % retention would you say yes or no, they say sure. And then they write articles about NYR being all in etc. If their sources are that good why are they 95 % wrong about pretty much everything...

No they don't

Tampa it's first cup went and got guys with term. Then went and got Hagel who had term. Only rental was savard who they really didn't need but went and got.

In general writing an essay does not prove anything. Toronto does not need to go all in on rentals

This is hardly an essay guy. The point is, more cup winners...and sustainable ones at that, went and got 1 year rental guys to fill gaps or a gap.

Again, loser mentality for a team with a record breaking 6 first series post season losses in a row, 55+ years since a cup, to ignore rentals when the team is icing the best team in 55+ years and the best chance to compete. Again, it's this season and next before there's decent chance the Leafs take a step backwards, but hey, that late 2nd round pick and a 19 year old kid who's never played pro hockey are way more important than filling immediate needs to win a cup. Short-sighted behavior like this is the reason Toronto hasn't had success.

You are using conjecture to say "these sources" (suggesting the ones I use are the general mean, are 95% wrong. The Athletic, anyone who knows hockey, knows they are incredibly accurate as far as sources go which isn't the highest benchmark. Doesn't mean they are right more often then not or even 25% of the time, but generally speaking they aren't very far off simply because they are talking to scouts, GMs, and conveying insider opinion versus their own.

Why I said Kravstov is available. Drury isn't going to trade the other players I mentioned for any rental, including Kane.

Drury does not like giving up top assets for rentals, that is not a secret. And the Copp trade was not a rental because Drury wanted to sign him long term.

Okay, that's fair historically, but who knows moving forward. NY is in a strange position right now. They should be competing now versus looking out 4 or 5 years IMO.

They are already competing. They went 6 games in the ECF last season as one of the youngest teams in the league and they are in the hunt this year even though they have been inconsistent. That comes with a young team though. Probably, their best shot at a cup is this season and the next 2 while Igor is on a cheap contract, so no reason to compromise their chances the next 2 years by giving up good young players now for just one playoff run with a rental like Kane. If they can get Kane for Kravstov and a pick, that's fine, because Kravstov isn't in the long term plan IMO and he isn't contributing much now either.
