You said it yourself. The team as WHOLE has been bad defensively. Nobody is saying Hughes is fantastic defensively, but the whole team sucks so it really isn't his fault. If you want to blame goals against, blame OEL, Myers, Stillman.

His defensive game is overrated because he throws hits. Outside of that, he is below average defensively. Hughes has been better offensively in every season outside of this one. They are close, they are in the same tier, but Dahlin is not better

No, it has pretty much been OEL, Myers, and Stillman that are leading the tank. Hughes is not great defensively, but he is not the reason we suck. Doesn't help that our goalies are also underperforming. Another thing you fail to realize is that the forwards are supposed to help out defensively by back checking and such. Only a select few of our forwards are good defensively. Hockey is a team sport. Defense can help offense, offense can help defense.

Fair enough, honestly, I also think at times Hughes' defense game is over-criticized. Yeah, he has some bad turnovers and can get exposed but he blocks shots and alot of weight is put on his shoulders to lead a sorry excuse for a defensive core on the Canucks

Quinn Hughes puts up a lot of points on a team that is good offensively, atrocious defensively, and they don’t win games because of it.

I agree that their d core sucks, but Canucks fans worship the ground Quinn Hughes walks on and it’s kind of ridiculous. Putting in the top 5-10 defenders in the league is laughable. I’m not even convinced he’s better than Slavin rn.

Quinn Hughes has 11 points, all assists, at 5 V 5t this year. Noah Dobson has 7 goals and four assists which is also good for 11 points at 5 V 5. At even strength Hughes has 13 points, all assists compared to Dobson who has 12 points at 5 on 5.

Hughes has 14 power play assists. Dobson has 3 goals and 6 assists on the power play. So not only does Hughes rely heavily on assists to get these crazy numbers, he’s doing the majority of it on the power play. It’s a joke to compare these two players, because like it or not Dobson is far superior in pretty much every regard. But hey u got the secondary assist power play king! Congrats!

Without Hughes, the team is so much worse. He provides the bulk of our offensive chances and saying he is atrocious defensively is not a great take anymore. He isn't a stud defensive player like Pelech or McAvoy but he isn't a liability either, he puts in the effort and blocks shots. Additionally, so much pressure is on him to be great and carry the blue line and he's consistently one of our better defensive d-men along with Schenn and Bear

He’s an elite passer who produces very well offensively in a system that is designed to promote offense. Dobson is a capable defender who can create his own shot in transition and generate offense on a team with little to no firepower up front.

Also goals above expected doesn’t mean ur getting lucky lol. Sometimes it just means ur a really good player lol.
