Ottawa might not be willing to trade Zaitsev for Karlsson at 50% retained. The idea they r gonna move that many picks and prospects for Karlsson is beyond ridiculous. Sens say no.

I take Karlsson 50% retained over Zaitsev any day. But not trading that many assets for sure.

For Five years???

That's a though choice but i would do it. He is still a good player (At least offensively).
Sens could trade Karlsson to a rebuilding team later if he truly falls of. But would you rather trade Zaitsev and a pick/prospect right now? Or play Karlsson for at least 3 seasons and see what he he can do?

Even if the only piece we were giving back was Zaitsev I still wouldn't do this.
