Description

Problems the Devils haven't had in a LONG time. Part of me wants to drop McLeod and Bastian from the opening night lineup, but I don't think that's the reality. Several players are going to push them to be in the opening night lineup. Zetterlund and Boqvist both showed enough last year to make the lineup and contribute. Holtz should find his way there as well. I don't think it happens opening night, but they are all going to push to be there. The Devils are spending way to much on Right Defense and I would love to see Severson traded before the season. I'm not a Severson hater, but spending nearly 20% of your salary cap at one position is NOT ideal. They also have several guys that can claim the bottom pairing RD position. All in all the Devils have some tough decisions to make (in a good way). The future is bright for this team.

I don't agree with you at all on spending too much on RHD. The Devils weakness was giving up goals last year, so improving on Subban and overall defense is key beyond a massive improvement simply to be average in net. The Devils don't have to spend that money elsewhere, but if you have the cap room, use it. As you note, there are many extra cheap forwards to find homes for, so why trade from an area of strength to just spend less money? Wait until the deadline when Severson's value would be at max value, not deal him because he's expensive in salary.
