How good of a roster could you make mortgaging the future? Tried to stay realistic but I'm sure there will be complaints.

I genuinely have no idea. This is like when someone says “awful trade” and doesn’t even know what the trade is

A player who still hasn't played 3 full season, abd regressed in his 2nd year under Bruce b is still a prospect. Yeah, I know who he's. We have Adam Beckman who can fill his role.

Guy had a sophomore slump and that makes him a prospect? Do you know what a prospect is?

We are stacked with d even if he leaves. You might want to do some research on wild D core. Still declines. We aren't making our cap worse for anyone when we already have problems

Which of those prospects, who I agree are impressive are stepping into Dumba's top 4 role next post season?

Brock faber..we still have calen addison. With all dye respect dude, we aren't trading dumba for a worse player. We aren't taking on additional year of a cap dump And our buyout ls go up next year. Trade Tyler Myers elsewhere. We aren't the team to force your cao dump on.

It's amazing Vancouver fans get mad when someone says their players aren't good , or a player who distressed after his 1st season, abd fell into Bruce dg house os still essentially a prospect who hasn't shown much

You called him something he isn’t. There’s saying a player is bad and then there is straight up being wrong. This is straight up being wrong. Is Seider a prospect?

Prospect is essentially a dude who hasn't played 3 full seasons, and he hasn't, if we're being honest..

So yeah, technically he's still a prospect. You need to play 75 or 76 games, or something along those lines before a team can't put you on waivers because they would risk losing you on waivers

Everyone has different definition of a prospect. It's like how people say a player is a bust after one year. Until that player finishes their elc, they are still a prospect

Do you consider McDavid a prospect because he’s still getting better?

I literally said player's on their elc and those on elc who haven't played 3 full season. Like how people got mad about kaprizov being called a rookie at age 27, and winning the award

Using ELC is wild though. Klimovich is a Canucks prospect with only 2 years left on his ELC, he won’t be an NHL player by the time he resigns

For what it's worth these were all supposed to be TDL trades and the assumption is that Ottawa, Detroit and Washington miss the playoffs.

That changes things a bit but not much. If you also assume that Suter refuses to extend his contract then it's a whole new ballgame and this looks like a good deal.

Who will play 3C this season with Suter gone?

And before you answer that with Veleno or Rasmussen, please look up their stats first.

The reason you make trades is to make your team better, now and in the future. The only thing in that trade offer that is worth anything at all is the late 1st and the player picked with that pick will not make the NHL until 2028 at the earliest, if he ever does.

You are giving up a very good defensive centre for someone that maybe will make the team six years from now, and you think that's a good idea?

I like Suter, but he's not Patrice Bergeron. You can't honestly think this is a bad trade for Detroit. Suter is in the final year of his deal and I HIGHLY doubt he'll even be re-signed.

Veleno and Rasmussen can easily fill that role now (and I don't need to look up their stats, I already know what they are - I also know that they're both still very young and it's not that relevant to this) and there is Kasper coming in, plus any other FA targets and/or draft picks Yzerman makes by then. Those guys could easily slot in there, or higher, by as soon as the 2023 season.

There's also the chance that 2025 pick becomes a FANTASTIC pick. You're giving up that lottery ticket for a guy who helps us tread water now?

You'd be absolutely nuts from a Detroit perspective not to take this deal.

Disagree, the idea is to build a 1 year contender with trades that the other teams fanbase would accept. I purposely skewed the value to acquire an available player who IMO would be an upgrade regardless of cost. Zub,Dumba, Suter, Brown and Smith is an upgrade over Myers, Hoglander and Pearson, Dickenson in vacuum.

I'll likely make another in the same vein but I'm curious what other contending rosters fans can make using the current core.

Zub is good. Hoglander could easily be better than brown, dumba is not good, Pearson is better than Suter.

Troll Post? Would love to see your contender roster for next year if they decide to keep Miller through the TDL again. Just coming up with a bit of a different concept in the dog days of summer.

You didn’t improve the team but spent valuable assets anyways. The only good player you added that makes the team better is Zub. Trading away Hoglander, Myers, and Pearson and replacing them with Dumba, brown, and Suter are not upgrades

How can some one trading away 3 firsts for meh players not be troll? There’s no way you honestly think this is a good AGM

MIN probably accepts under 2 conditions

1) Retention goes to a full 50%
2) the pick becomes a first.

Uhhhhh...

I mean...

Sure I guess? I don't see any logic in trading a decent prospect and a 1st rounder for a guy Washington got for a second just a bit ago but I guess I wouldn't complain if I was Brian MacLellan.

Your'e really not paying attention, I think it's a terrible idea to mortgage the future.

I'm trying to play out, if this core, including Miller, could contend this year if they went all in. I'm not focusing on down the road or winning trades, rather could you add enough around the edges to contend.

I would say no, but I'm going to take another crack at it. I would be curious to know if others could create a team in this fashion that could compete.

I understand your goal, but why target mediocre players if you are doing a mock contender team? Why not trade for good players?

Why would Detroit give up their best defensive centre, with retention, for a left winger that's 30 years old that we have no roster spot for, a prospect that will never make the NHL, another prospect that will never even be signed, and a late 1st three years from now, and throw Smith in too?

Detroit declines and keeps Suter. He's worth a lot more than what's offered here.

Detroit takes that in a heartbeat
