How I would finish off the summer if this team wants to compete for the playoffs

Description
1) ARZ trade;
The Yotes take on Poolman's contract and get a young forward that could join their top six group in the next year or two. Poolman could play a depth role for them if they still plan to move Chychrun. VAN clears a bit of vital cap space by using its surplus forward depth as currency.

2) NJD trade;
Done to death on this site, Miller trades for a RHD are nothing new. But if VAN wants to compete they need to acquire one that will immediately help them, and Severson fits the bill. Added Walsh and a 2nd to make up the value difference, and hopefully Walsh would be ready to join the big club in 2023 or do spot duty for injuries this season. Haggle about the pick if you want but I think Severson and Walsh would be a solid base for a return in a Miller deal if Severson will extend.

3) One more value UFA signing;
I chose Steel here mostly because of his age, but it could be any useful UFA that is starting to get nervous about being unsigned and wants to ink a value deal. Maybe Motte comes back if the price is right?

Losing Miller is a big blow to the team's competitiveness, but this roster has much better balance and room to extend all of Horvat, Severson and Kuzmenko next year if they want to.

    Trading away a good young top 9 forward to dump a 2.5 million dollar contract seems like poor asset management. Poolman likely stays on LTIR if his head injury symptoms don’t fully recover so we don’t need to move him. Even if he did become healthy, we should lose a guy like Hoglander to dump 2.5 mil.

    Generally I agree with that. I’m just not sure if there’s a long term fit for Hogs on this team. If the wingers in the top 9 are Boeser, Garland, Pod, Mikheyev and Kuzmenko for the foreseeable future (and possibly Lekks soon), then he won’t be deployed in a way that will work to his strengths. On top of that, there are some younger UFA’s that might be able to be had on value deals that could compete for a Center role, like Steel. That’s a bigger organizational need IMO.

    A deal like this could wait until next offseason as well, but it’s probably better to get ahead of clearing a little cap if possible. And it could be a pick as sweetener instead of Hogs, but I feel like the forward depth allows this type of move.

    I’d rather trade Hoglander for an asset. It’s simply not worth dumping such a young player with so much potential to free up a couple mil

    I do not believe NJD would extend Miller, so would unlikely trade for him to start with.

    Maybe Severson for another forward if move Damon.
