well you see the difference there is that Dubas has gotten something good and valuable for his cap dumps every time while yzerman has given 7 defenders like chariot almost 5 million per year with term

Yes, dumping Mzarek's cap really netted Toronto a valuable and needed drop out of the first round in the draft. I am guessing there were 31 GM's trying to figure out how they could just drop down in the draft with nothing tangible coming back to them after watching that masterpiece of a trade.

Dropping 10 places from a late 1st to early 2nd to dump 2 years of a contract is incredibly good value. It's amazing how people round here value cap space like gold, unless the leafs pull off a good move for it.
Yeah, lots of gms would love to know how to get rid of a contract like mrazeks for the comperable value of late 3rd

Tough defending this post because these trades seem “Toronto-esque” for Capfriendly. I will say the comments are a blast to get over the mid day lull.

Tell me you know nothing about keeping a team under the cap without telling me you know nothing about keeping a team under the cap

Who are the 7 defenders that he's given these contracts too?

First, It wasn't 10 spots it was 13 and the value isn't a late 3rd it's a high 2nd. Also, are we just conveniently forgetting the Marleau trade? What value did he get for that trade? The joy of watching Carolina draft Seth Jarvis? And as far as valuing old defensemen; doesn't Muzzin play for your team? I mean, when he actually plays...

No, it's a late 3rd, and even if it was a 2nd it would be fantastic value.
As far as marleau, that was because marleau had a full no movement clause that lou gave him and he would only waive it for san Jose who wouldn't trade for him so the leafs had to trade him to someone who guaranteed a buy out. The leafs hands were tied by a previous gm, so that's lou's baby, not dubas

The cost to move from 38 to 25 is the #40. Which last time I checked is early in the second round.

Depends on the value chart, ive seen them rate jt from an early 2nd to a 4th, that's why i picked the middle, but again, it is very good value for the minimal chance of a good player down grade

My statement has zero to do about cap management. It was about someone bragging that Dubas gets something good and valuable for his cap dumps. In this case, Toronto got nothing positive for a cap dump, they gave up the value of a 2nd round pick. If Dubas had of gotten something for this cap dump, he would have at least got a late round pick or a prospect or something. Not the case here. And you can't claim cap space as the value here, the very definition of a cap dump is getting rid of a player in order to free up cap. What you give up or get for this cap dump determines the value of the trade. Dubas got nothing positive back from the Mrazek cap dump, and had to pay assets to do it, which is the complete opposite of what Jared was bragging about what Dubas always manages to do.
