Description
All this talk of Dubois and Huberdeau is a waste. Build a champion through the draft like all great teams do. Chasing shinny objects doesn’t lead to Stanley Cups.

Of course. I’m guessing he will be back on LTIR by next summer

My friend, we will offer a third round pick for Edmundson, not a first.

I respectfully disagree. The Habs can absolutely get a first for Edmundson. He's a far better defenseman than Chiarot, has won a Stanley Cup, is big and physical, a leader, and has a good contract that will be under team control for a few seasons. I have no skin in this game (not a fan of either team), but a 3rd clearly wouldn't be enough to obtain him.

Now, I am not sure that the Capitals necessarily need Edmundson. We can argue that. But to say that Edmundson could not get that team a first is being unfair.

I agree that Edmundson could fetch a first. I can also almost guarantee the Caps won't be the team to make that move. Defense is more or less set for the year, and we need to retain futures and picks since the contending window in DC is closing.

Then there is no trade. He gets a late first or early 2nd.

Next season you have no one signed on your blue line aside from Carlson. I’m sure Orlov will resign and that Ferehavy will get a new deal as an RFA. Then what?

We have Alexyev and Iorio who will very likely make the jump to the NHL, Orlov will get a slight raise, and Jensen can be re-signed with the cap going up slightly and all of the UFAs coming off the cap next year. That plus Carlson and Fehervary who will be re-signed as an RFA is our entire top 6, and Johansen can comfortably take the 7 spot.

So you’ll be playing essentially this:

Orlov-Carlson

Fehevary-Jensen

Alexyev- Iorio

Am I missing something?

I couldn't agree more. That team is set on defense (barring disaster). It'll be interesting to see if the Canadiens decide to move him, considering their wealth of LD prospects.

One of the young guys, and i bet TVR gets re-signed, the Caps love him. The Caps have solid blueline prospect depth, a move like this just delays bringing in homegrown talent, which the Caps need to get away from. They've been surpressing young talent in Hershey for far too long.

Ok that’s all well and good. I understand the thinking of wanting the young guys to play. However, I was under the impression that the Caps still are in a win now mode? To me playing that many kids on the back end is what a rebuilding team does.
