The Isles are not trading Barzal, and if they did Miller is not the player they want back.

But they also get a great middle six forward in Hoglander, a great goal scoring prospect in Lekkermaki and they get a 1st and 2nd round picks. 5 years down the line this could turn out to be a steal for Islanders.

Fair? This isn't fair. This is an absolute fleecing for the Islanders. Two first rounder, Hog (27 points in 56 games rookie season), top 20 forward in Miller although a rental, and a 2nd too? Cmon. It was more than enough at two first rounders, especially if he wants out. That's a bigger haul than Tkachuk got and Barzal isn't close to Tkachuk.

Lou does not care about 5 years down the line, he is trying to win now so that has no affect on the trade.

Barzal is not being moved and if he was you are including Pettersson or there is no trade to be made.

The 1st is 2 drafts from now, Lou most likely not even be here for that. Hoglander is an ok prospect who looks like a middle 6 winger which the Isles have loads of. And Lekkerimäki is probably 2-3 years away from the NHL.

The Isles are not in a situation where they are looking for rentals and futures if they moved Barzal, it would be an equivalent player like Pettersson.

if hes trying to win now he should make this trade. Miller is better than Barzal right now, and he can be resigned when Varlamovs deal is up. Not to mention u get Hog too. This trade is such an overpayment and it makes the isles better right now as well as in the future too.

Pettersson is quite a bit better than Barzal, he put up 32 goals basically in the second half of the season alone. No disrespect to Barzal, hes fast and a great playmaker.

Miller's next contract will be a mistake for who ever signs him. He is a great player who at 30 with the physical game that he has played will begin to slow down and after 3 or 4 years. Barzal will be 26 at his next contract and with an 8 year would be good throughout the duration of the contract.

There is a reason that VAN fans are relentlessly posting Barzal and Dobson trades, because you see them as cornerstone pieces while Miller, Hoglander, etc. are expandable. Well Isles fans see Barzal and Dobson as cornerstone pieces for our team, and Miller as a nice to have, and Hoglander as not needed.

There is no trade to happen.

This is not accurate, they are about as equal of players as you will find.

Petterson (24 this season) career has .90 points per game. Scores More Goals.

Barzal (25 this season) career has a .85 points per game. Gets More Assists.

Just like Petterson improved the 2nd half of the season, so did Barzal after the 13 game road trip to start the season and weeks of Covid issues that all teams faced.

Barzal hasn't even put up 25 goals in a season yet. Ur saying Petterson has more points per game and more of them are goals. Its pretty much unanimous that goals are more valuable than assists, which means Petey is better.

You can argue that Petterson is better, just as I would argue that Barzal is better. Petterson is a better goal scorer, while Barzal is a better playmaker. They are different players, who would hold equal value.

However your statement was "quite a bit better" which is just not accurate.

He is better. He has a higher PPG, more points are goals, and to add onto his value he is two years younger. Forwards are most useful for scoring goals. Anybody on the ice can get assists but what really matters is putting the puck in the net.
