Not sure I would be looking for a UFA defender. Looking at the Sabres, yeah, I would want to upgrade as well, but Fitzgerald on a 3rd pairing works for where they are at right now. Top 4 long term I am in love with.

If anything, signing a vet in a one year term would be a place I go.

I struggle with Jokiharju and Fitzgerald's inconsistencies. I think Fitz grows to be a 6/7 D or NHL/AHL tweener and Jokiharju might just stick as a bottom pair guy. Although Bryson and Jokiharju were a mess last season, I don't want to have Power have to drag Henri's butt around the ice in the future.

I would be more inclined to let it play out and see. Sabres aren't a playoff team (yet), so seeing if there is a real need there, we'll, you have time to assess that
