Ottawa needs to retain 50% on Brown and add a decent pick. Marino’s term is important and Pittsburgh could use the added 1.8m freed up against the cap.

I just see a big cap if Pens move him. We have no one to play in that top 4 RHD spot. Brown is good, but we have Kapanen and Rodrigues who may re-sign and could fill that void. Even if Brown is better than them, we have options at that position, unlike our RD.

Or we could just keep Marino, move Petts for a 3rd and free up 4+ million for the next 3 years lol.

That would be much more logical but clearly Pittsburgh isn’t going with logic considering all of the reputable sources coming forward acknowledging that they’re listening on Marino.

Maybe they take the Marino return and flip it for a cost effective piece with term like Tampa has been doing. Who knows. But for the moment Marino’s very much on the market.

You’re not wrong! I think Brown blows both of them out of the water but gaining whatever difference there is between Brown and those two probably doesn’t compare to the net loss between Marino and whoever comes in to replace him.

Maybe they plan on bringing in a RD through free agency? Only thing that makes sense to me. Marino out and replaced with someone similar at a similar dollar figure and you’re up whatever the return is for free idk
