Can I ask why Debrincat is worth more than Kane??

One year of Kane at 34 years old (UFA after season meaning he can walk) vs one year of Debrincat at 24 years old (RFA so would be back for many years to come).

Kane will be the better player in history but at his age you only have a couple more good years left, and thats IF you resign him. Cat has 7-10 good years infront of him that the team that trades for him controls.

As a Hawks fan living in the Cap's marketplace, I'd rather keep that 2nd than get Samsonov. He's not the long-term answer in the net, and if we're looking for short-term answers for a goalie, I'd rather get paid to take a cap dump, or sign a cheap, bad, FA who will help our chances at Bedard.

I also think the Hawks could get a better package than that for Cat. If the Hawks move him (I would prefer they didn't) I would prefer a top 5 pick in the 2022 draft be coming back in the trade package. Otherwise, keep him and rebuild around him.

Totally fair statement with Samsonov. I personally think he needs to play in front of a good team to be a great goalie but he is young and cheap to get.

I think the problem with Cat is that teams know net year he'll command upwards of 9 plus million a year, and don't want to shed so much. I think Necas has a huge upside and given a bigger role would easily be a 60-70 point guy in the NHL. That being said, I understand the want for a top 5 pick. You could look at New Jersey and do the 2nd overall, following first, Blackwood, rights to wood, and another good player in return
