It would be way more logical for Seattle to take Jiricek or Nemec who have a higher ceiling than Marino. The addition of Marino doesn't put them in a playoff position so why waste the chance to draft a franchise altering player for a good top 4 dman who will be 28-29 YO when the team is ready to contend. If you really like Kapanen, you can always use one of the 7 second round pick to get him.

I did this with the assumption that nemec gets selected at 3 and the kraken don’t want to take Jiricek at 4 that way the penguins select Cooley and the kraken get their D and a right handed shot with more potential. But I get what your saying, Seattle should not do this and keep the pick.

The problem with what you said is “ The addition of Marino doesn't put them in a playoff position so why waste the chance to draft a franchise altering player for a good top 4 dman who will be 28-29 YO when the team is ready to contend.”, when it sounds like they are going to be aggressive in FA.

Here is an excerpt from Pierre Lebruns recent article:

“ “They’re going to spend big if they can,’’ a source reiterated Wednesday.

I wonder if they’ll make an offer to Johnny Gaudreau if he hits the market, for example. Wouldn’t surprise me if they did.”

If they want to be aggressive and turn their team into a playoff team, then Marino would be a team they could be very interested in

For sure, that’s fair. But this team also has 8 mil in cap space.

I am just talking about the lift is of this trade with regards to if they did it with the team they have right now, where they could make a big splash
