Retain 50% of Muzzin's salary and take back Sean Walker and LA might consider it.

Also at that point it's not worth it for the leafs, muzzin is still a good d man and the point was to shed salary

No, but if LA is talking on Muzzin, they can't afford Walker, and Toronto deserves something back for the salary retention.

He's definitely not a cap dump. The Kings could probably move him for a 2nd round pick and a prospect.

He's a good defenseman at $2.8M. He's not a good defenseman at $5.6M.

There's no chance the Kings take him at his full cap hit, even if Toronto adds a sweetener.

Alright then what if it was muzzin 25% retained drop the 3rd to Toronto and Walker coming back?

The Kings essentially would be getting Muzzin for Walker's cap hit. Adding any salary prevents them from making the other moves they need to make. I don't think they'll go for anything less than 50%.

By swapping Muzzin (50% retained) for Walker, Toronto gets the RHD they've needed for years and don't take on any additional cap. They actually dump $200k or so in cap space while swapping a perpetually injured defenseman for a quality second pairing RHD.

I see what you are saying but I don't think our need is as high anymore with liljegren really showing to be a possible option for us as a number 4 man

Edit: upon further consideration i do view your proposal as fair value and I would change the roster to include walker by not signing Manson.

Good to hear it. I think the Kings would consider said trade as well, assuming Muzzin was willing to waive his NTC.

I think of all teams he'd only be willing to waive for California teams or Calgary (Sutter)
