Edmonton couldn't afford Larkin really
Toronto has 3 guys making $35m a year and Larkin with the two headed monster would be about $29m-$30m between them.

Yeah the wings say no. Underpayment. And Oilers can't afford this why do they do this?
I’m not sure that they can’t afford this, I believe they can. It would completely revamp the dynamic of the team by allowing Larkin to Center the 2nd line with Leon on the wing or vice versa, really opens up the depth not only in the top 6 but the bottom as well. It was clear the Oilers depth was an issue these playoffs.

Detroit’s rebuild is probably over by the start of next season, and Larkin is not someone who should be playing in a bottom 6 role, so I think both teams say no.
Larkin would play in the top 6 without a doubt. Whether it’s on the wing of a McDavid/Draisatl centered line or centering the 2nd unit with Draisatl on the wing.
The rebuild is “probably over”, is a bit of a stretch, albeit a noncommittal one.
Are we expecting to hit on our 1st round pick this year to break out for another ROY run in 2023? Is Rasmussen, Veleno or Zadina going to magically ‘figure it out’? Are we expecting Edvinsson, Berggren, Wallinder, Soderblom & Johannsen to come in and play like studs this year and/or next? It’s possible.
But if a majority of that doesn’t happen, Wings won’t make the playoffs, which is what I would consider exiting the rebuild, until 2024.
