Description
What would it take to land Cirelli? Does Tampa have the cap room to give him a long term deal in the 5-6 range? I think a package like this could help replace his production and would give Tampa a few pieces to make another run next year. Tampa fans what do you think, would this work? If not what will it take?

Tampa currently has $20 mil in cap space when Cirelli's contract is up, $27 if you include Seabrook on LTIR. I think Tampa will have enough room to keep him long term

Cirelli scored 1.49 points per 60 even strength this season.
Suter scored 1.63 points per 60 even strength this season.

You want to trade Suter (with retention) and 3 other assets for a player that performs worse, is on an expiring contract, and cost twice as much. Why?

They have about 60 million spent on 10 guys for 23/24. Its hard to fill out the other 23 spots with 25 million. Sergachev, Cernak, Foote, Colton need extensions as well next year. There goes at least 15. Leaving 5 for the other 9 spots. I'm having a hard time seeing how they can fit it in and stay competitive.

Cirelli has been in contention for the Selke, Suter not so much. Not all about offence.

Suter is top in takeaways and giveaway-takeaway difference on the team.

Do you honestly think Cirelli's value comes from his offensive production?

He couldn't cut it as the 2C. Time to move on. Yzerman brings in a guy he drafted with cup experience.

This trade is insane!

Cirelli has a salary of 7.2 millions this year. In order to extend him you'll have to offer more than that.

You want to give up 5 assets for him in Suter (our best defensive centre), Wallinder (a top prospect), two second round draft picks (in deep drafts), and a retention slot to boot (of which we only have two).

It would be much much cheaper to just sign Trocheck or Copp or someone else in the offseason.

I'll give you 100:1 odds on any bet over $10,000 that this trade doesn't happen.

I never said it would happen. I know Yzerman will not move future assets at this point. Just something I would like to see. I overpaid but think it improves the team now and it is my AGM, so beat it.

For players who are on expiring contracts that were signed after July 10, 2020:
The Qualifying Offer is limited to 120% of their previous contracts annual average (AAV)

Cirelli isn't going to be a cap casualty. Sergachev will be moved if anyone.

Im not so sure about that, Yzerman has already spent some draft capital and prospects before: 2nd for Leddy, Moved up in the draft, Used picks to acquire Stephens and Erne, traded prospect Alec Regula.
I wouldn´t personally do this trade, but there are many Wings fans who hates the idea of traiding. I don´t get it.

Yzerman has won almost every trade he has made. I think there are coming even bigger trades soon when the team is trending up. People also forget that every prospect hasn´t room on the roster and some of them has to be moved.

I know that, I wasn't talking about the QO-rule. I was talking about a player not wanting to accept a lower salary than what he already has.

It doesn’t matter the last year of the actual cash flow on the contract but rather the AAV or amortized value. If you sign a contract tomorrow for 5 years that pays out 100k for the first 4 & 600k for the last year that doesn’t mean you’d expect 600k annually going forward. Further, it’s a non-negotiable as he’s an RFA and that QO is approved via CBA.

As I said, I'm NOT talking about a QO. I'm talking about a player not wanting to accept a pay cut to sign a new contract.

Cirelli is being paid 7.2 million next season and I doubt very much that he'd be happy to extend that contract for less money. It's a factor that complicates the ability to get the player to sign long term with the team.

If you offer a player 6 million in salary it very much has a bearing on his willingness to accept that offer if his previous salary was higher or lower than that amount.

I gave you a tangible example and what you’re arguing is illogical. Another basis which further solidified my point is that escrow clawback reduces over the course of his contract so if his contract was front loaded he’d see even less funds which explains the backloaded contract in addition to the QO as leverage. No one can argue against this from a CBA or business stand point.
