Defintely a more competitive team for 2023. Still requires development to make the playoffs though (Boqvist was a trash fire at preventing chances and even more at getting zone exits), which makes sacrificing cap flexibility for Texier, Johnson, Sillinger, Gavrikov and Boqvists 2nd contracts harder to bear. Copp would fit the roster well but I am positive someone will either 1. pay him more or 2. be more competitive with him, this might as well go for Manson too. Columbus is rarely an attractive destination for UFAs.
This also suggests that Chinakov and Marchenko are both not with the big club, which is hard to see though not impossible. I think the Motte signing is a bit frivolous considering we already have Danforth, who is sneaky good, and Robinson who is certainly good for a 4th line.
I would rather be worse in 2022 and have a lottery pick than miss the playoff by ~5 points. I just don't see this roster out competing a resurgent NYI or a more talented NJD(that's even betting that age finally catches the Caps and Pens).
