I don't think Nylander is ready to be a first line center. Definitely an interesting trade idea though.

Nylander might not be a #1 C today but has the potential to be. Toronto gets their young stud #1 RHD and the Blues get a center they probably can't get any other way.

Sicarius, I understand what you're saying. I just think that the Blues need that kind of a d-man more than they need a young forward given their roster and given the Conference in which they play. If I'm Toronto I definitely take this though. They have a lot of young offensive talent: Matthews, Marner, Brown, Kadri still pretty young, ect, but they need a young defenseman who can match up age-wise with their forwards to really build the team for the future.

The Blues desperately need a game breaking center to play with Tarasenko.

The Blues are setup to be a playoff team for the next 5 or so years. Even if they happen to miss the playoffs their draft position most likely isn't going to return a game breaking center. It's possible but the odds are probably against it.

The choice is to stay the course and waste some prime years of Tarasenko hopping someone like Tage Thompson (or future draft pick) turns into that #1 center or make some kind of trade to bring one in.

Probably a very fair hockey trade. The only thing holding the Leafs back I think in making the deal is the Leafs have cap space. Do they think they can find a good NHL Dman, though not as good as Parayko, and keep still keep Nylander? Of course the Blues would have to be convinced Nylander can play centre.

Nylander may have potential to be a 1st line center, however, Parayko has the potential to be a number 1 defenceman and a huge hulking one at that. Worth more currently and likely in the future as well.
