Description
I know leaving Vatanen unprotected seems counter intuitive but it makes more sense then buying BXA out IMO. We need someone to Expose to the ED and if we trade Vats and buyout Bxa then we don't have anyone the satisfies that need other than the 3 we would want to protect.. If Bxa waives then it is a moot point. But we should be prepared for that to not happen. In the grand scheme of things losing Vats to LV doesn't really hurt us all that much. Maybe swap Larsson for Theo but I think either one would be necessary in a Duchene deal. I would love to be able to move Despres contract at this point but I think we are stuck with it.

    Bieksa is likely to waive his NMC for the expansion draft, so you don't need to deal with that, but I think the Ducks will protect Cam, Hampus, and Manson, so Vats would be exposed anyway unless they can trade him. The Duchene trade matches what I would expect Colorado's asking price to be, but it doesn't seem like a good trade for the Ducks. With an aging core, we would be better off saving the young guys and high picks. I would also try to swap out Larsson for Lindholm. A better route would be to trade Vatanen for a young forward to avoid losing him for nothing in the expansion.
