1 year deal leads VO straight to UFA, so that is not happening. Long extension or trade.
Don't like Subban signing.
Vegas deal is bad for Sabres. They have plenty of LD, and Hague is main point of this deal.

Dadonov blocking out Peterka is nightmare fuel.
Not to mention dumb contracts.

Peterka will play damn near a full season in this scenario, he might miss a few but have him start in the AHL, and first injury he comes in, might even start right away due to injuries in training camp.

He has more value on a 1 year 2.5 million contract at the deadline than now as an RFA, it's a sign and trade at the deadline. Subban had a bounce back season and is a former norris winner on a 1 year deal when you need to fill up cap. The "log jam" on LD is way overstated if Dahlin/Samuelsson are a pairing, and Johnson is most likely not going to sign here so the depth behind Dahlin, Power right now is really just Bryson who is serviceable at best at this moment. Hague is a great young defenseman, and the only reason this deal would be done is because Vegas cannot sign Hague.

I don't think Sabres are planning to be sellers at deadline. If there is slight chance to make playoffs, around trade deadline, Sabres will try to upgrade.
It's still a lot to pay for Hague and put him on 3rd line.

Injuries are gonna happen of course but I'd rather give him his shot off the hop as long as he's ready.

Hague would more realistically be on the 2nd pairing and Power on the third for the year, I don’t imagine us being sellers outside of Olofsson, I see it as just hold onto him and trade for more value opposed to trading him now for a pick and less value

I’d rather him come into camp having to earn and fight for a spot, as opposed to being gifted a shoe in spot. Like the idea of him fighting for a spot the whole year while playing 60-65 games

In that argument I would rather he plays 60-65 games and is still practicing with the Sabres around the other 20 than being in Rochester dealing with the wear and tear of switching teams etc. Having guys rotate in and out of the lineup just keeps them fresh and still builds a sense of "team". You have him blocked out by too many 1-way contracts.

You are not trading for a guy, who would take ice time away from Owen Power. Since he isn't required to play 25 min a game, he`ll be on 2nd pairing.

I don't hate that point, I see the value in sitting for games, but I do not like the idea of him sitting for say 10 games straight, in this scenario with all the 1 ways he'd probably start in the AHL if he doesn't force someone out, and then with injuries stay with the team full time.

I actually really like the idea of Power coming into a sheltered role in his rookie year on the bottom pairing next to someone like Psysk, and fighting his way up the lineup

He is being sheltered. Dahlin is your top defender. Samuelsson - Dahlin is your top pair. Power will be playing 2nd line, most likely, with Jokiharju if Sabres won't make splash for RHD in free agency.

2nd pairing isn't really being sheltered, when you're looked at as the #3/#4 hard to say you're in a sheltered role
