Weber on the block..

Description
Just wondering if Weber could possibly fit under the cap. Seems unlikely if they want to retain Okposo and give Strome anything other than a bridge deal, but with Grabner and Nielsen coming off the books after this year, it's still theoretically possible.

I know not a lot of non-Islanders fans know a lot about CDH, but he is a VERY good shot suppressing defenseman. He is an advanced stats darling and, while his offense still needs work, is a great defenseman. Nelson could be a good fit as their 2C.

Hi. Player wise this may be a fair deal. But Weber turns 30 this week and his 7.8m contract runs 8 more years. This type of contract really straps a team in future years. With this contract see how little cap room the Isles have. Don't know that a team would want to pay Weber 2.3m more a year than their all star captain Tavares.
How good will Weber be in future years?

Why can't Weber be a killer for at least the next 6 years? Maybe the last 2 years aren't going to be at great value but Weber at 35 should still be worth it. Nashville would never do it though.

JT will basically be getting Grabovski/Kulemin's money since all their contracts expire at the same exact time. He's got an absurdly low contract now as it is, you can't really use it as a leverage point (see: Boychuk, Johnny). I absolutely love Leddy and think he has #1 defenseman potential, but Weber is Norris material. A defensive anchor is what the Isles are definitely missing.

Exactly. Don't really see him falling off that much.
