Sure it’s possible that this happens but this isn’t even a playoff caliber team. Chychrun not likely to play more than 40 games.

All trading Wahlstrom does is cement the fact that Lou/Trotz don’t care about about developing high upside talent. The islanders would have arguably the worst current and long term future in the NHL if this happens.

Trotz might be frustrated with Wahlstrom but Lou is not that stupid of a GM to give up on a first round prospect that he drafted back in 2018. Who is still on his ELC. Lou knows that the number #1 need is a right winger to play with Barzal and trading Wahlstrom does not help. It just not a smart move for a GM, Lou has been around long enough to know that.

idk, barzal and wahlstrom played together with parise for a bit this year and he went like 10 games in a row without a point or something. I really just dont think hes a fit for this team anymore and doesnt respond to trotz' way of coaching well.

Wahlstrom rarely played the same amount of shifts as Barzal and Parise , and despite the low production that line played well. Kind of hard to produce when you’re playing 8 min per game and you know that one mistake gets you benched. There isn’t one forward in the league Wahlstroms age who would succeed in his role. Caufield, Zegras, Boldy, Raymond. All these guys would be in and out of the lineup or in the AHL if they were drafted by the isles.

Is saying he’s not a fit just code for too skilled and under the age of 23 ? Which players under the age of 23 have responded to Trotz coaching over the last 20 years?

If you want to talk about someone not being a fit , it would be Kieffer Bellows. The guy needs a passing center to reach his potential and he’s not good enough to play with Barzal, and he’s not really suited for a bottom 6 role.

I mean Dobson has responded very well, Kuznetsov put up 77 when he as 23 after only a year with trotz, practically developed Tom Wilson, Vrana was scoring 20+ at 22 etc etc so just blaming trotz for everything is a super weird narrative

and idk where that came from but Bellows isnt even on the team in this ACGM so no arguments there but wahlstrom just hasnt been good in this system and was practically a no show for the 2nd half of the year

Dobson's breakout had nothing to do with Trotz's coaching, it had everything to do with Pulock's injury and getting regular shifts. He gained confidence because he knew he couldn't get benched. Wilson was a good 3rd liner under Trotz , I don't know how you can bring up Vrana when Trotz hated the kid, rarely played him and Vrana broke out the year after Trotz left. Burakovsky, Radulov, Filip Forsberg also had friction with Trotz. It's not a weird narrative, it's the narrative you don't agree with even though its played a part in why Trotz was let go by Nashville and Washington.

For whatever reason isles fans like to ignore Wahlstrom's ice time when talking about production. That's actually a weird narrative because like I said there isn't a forward in the league Wahlstrom's age who would produce in Wahlsrom's role. If Wahlstrom was getting 15 min a game with powerplay time and wasn't producing, then you'd actually have a point. It's nothing new for isles fans to want to get rid of high upside talent, Toews went from being called a 3rd pair D by 50% of the isles fanbase to a superstar two way defenseman in Colorado.

Vrana was given the Wahlstrom treatment at the same age. 13 goals in 73 games playing 4th line minutes, just like Wahlstrom.

The two head coaches (Barry Trotz, Troy Mann) who healthy scratched Jakub Vrana over the last two seasons had to find new teams this summer. If dressing Jakub Vrana for games is a hockey coach litmus test, I think I could be one.
