Description
I wouldn't do the Fiala trade if I were Minnesota, but I believe a potential high-end forward 12-13th pick + Mayfield who is a sound top-4 defenseman on a very good deal at least one more year entices Guerin and Minnesota. Bellows could be a 3rd line winger with 15 goals, but I'll admit he's an empty-calorie scorer. They probably could get something better though, this is merely the best-case scenario for Isles IMO.

I'm not sure Arizona would do the proposed trade either, but I believe Bailey's reputation (around the league) is way better than people think or should be and they essentially get two 2nd round picks for taking him and they will not have a problem with retaining salary on Ghost because they'll need it.

I don't think Varly would waive for Buffalo either, but he could be a very good stopgap for them while they wait for Levi and Portillo and their prospect pool is already stacked + they still got three 1st rounders, so the 2nd should be available for a goalie like Varlamov.

Lastly, I know some of you will think immediately that Dobson wouldn't agree to that deal, but remember; one of the best qualities with Lou still is that he's been successful in locking up core players on good contracts and I mean Dobson will be 30 when this deal expires and most likely will be getting a very good deal once again. I also do think Lou will point at the Pelech and Pulock contracts and persuade him to take less. Most likely though is a 3-year bridge I believe. This is also a best-case scenario of course.

I would also rather have a Czarnik on the RW-4th line spot, but there is zero chance Trotz doesn't play Clutterbuck so...

      Yeah, I seriously think Sabres could be in the playoff race with good goaltending and some luck (i.e. Bergeron retires and Boston declines a bit, etc. for example).

      It's a tough division, but between Boston aging and Toronto and Tampa having to make tough cap decisions, the Sabres hopefully finally building a team is coming at the right time

      I agree.

      Simple research;
      After today's victory over the Islanders.
      Prior to being placed on IR, Anderson played very poorly on November 2nd (he only made 22 saves on 27 shots) then did not play again until January 29th and made 27 saves on 29 shots.
      During his absence the Sabres only won 8 of 33 games for 22 pts or 55 pts pro-rated over 82 games.

      When Anderson is on the team either playing or in the bench, the Sabres are 23-19-5 or 89 pts pro-rated over 82 games.
      Not quite Stanley Cup play offs but a lot closer than being a bottom team as they are now, 30 pts out of a playoff spot.

      Varlamov may be the answer with a life time SB% of 0.916.
      If the Sabres could play as well as they are with Tokarski and Anderson in net who have 0.901 and 0.897 SV% this year one could only imagine how well they could be with AVG GK.

      IDK if Karmanos would be willing to part with this years 2nd round pick, but their could be a trade between the two teams.
