Description
1. Vegas chooses Plekanec in the expansion draft.

http://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/19015985/nhl-vegas-golden-knights-mock-draft-based-players-left-unprotected-their-teams

3 of the 4 mock drafts have Vegas choosing plekanec, who I believe is the most valuable player montreal has to offer Vegas. A lot of people on this site get fussy when plekanec is included in the draft because his cap hit is 6 million, but its only for 1 year. If Vegas was going to take a player with salary, they would obviously prefer somebody on a 1 year deal. If they don't take plekanec montreal won't be able to afford kovalchuk without moving salary.

2. Shipachev is a must sign for the habs this offseason if he is coming to the NHL. They need a top 6 offensive center. If they could put him in between snipers like Kovalchuk and Galchenyuk and give them sheltered offensive minutes they could maximize his production.

3. Habs should trade Beaulieu. Unfortunately if the habs sign shipachev they won't be able to pay both Beaulieu and Markov. Habs have already agreed to a deal with a Czech defenseman and sergachev could likely make the team next year, making Beaulieu somewhat expendable.

4. Duchene. He would fit perfectly with Pacioretty and Radulov. They need a scoring center for that line seeing as Radulov is more of a playmaker. This would allow danault to center a very good 3rd line with Lehkonen and Shaw.

5. Kovalchuk. I think a right handed sniper like kovalchuk would be a huge boost to montreal's offensive.

6. Emelin. I don't know if he can fetch a 2nd round pick but I don't think it's far off. He definitely has value around the league and Dallas needs defence bad.

7. Arizona also needs defenseman, davidson is a good depth D.

Beaulieu is not a good enough dman for the Avs to trade duchene for. I like Gallagher but adding him doesn't make Beaulieu more attractive in a trade...who really is a dime a dozen Dman that you could sign in UFA based on how he has played this season.

Dont see avs making that sort of move, just keep onto the more offensively gifted duchene if that was the case

If habs didn't have sergachev who can play next season I wouldn't trade Beaulieu. I think habs never used beaulieu to his full potential, he had 30 pts on the third pair with limited powerplay time. He should've been with weber last season not emelin. He would've had 40+ points for sure and I wouldn't have to try to explain why Beaulieu isn't a dime a dozen... if he's a dime a dozen could you name some other UFA's that are still young and get 30 pts playing 3rd pairing D? ... anyways I get your point, the perceived value of Beaulieu is not high right now.. he was even a healthy scratch in game 6... habs could've used a good transitionin dman like him to generate some offense in that game too

It looks like a great lineup top to bottom, one concern: are Russian players going to be able/interested to jump into the NHL when it's going to be in conflict with Olympics? I would love to see Montreal solve center just curious if this year can happen.

I really think Davidson is a top 4 defenseman and i think he would cost more than a 7th.

I like it on paper...but a few things make it a bit unrealistic for me, unfortunately.

      - I don't think Galchenyuk signs a 6-year deal at that price. You might be able to convince him to get a 1-year deal at $4.5m, but on a long-term deal, my guess is he would want more money than that. Probably somewhere around $6.5m.

      - From the many discussions I've had with Avs fans, I don't think Gallagher as the main piece would cut it for Duchene.

      - I'm not sure I agree with you about Arizona and Dallas needing D. Dallas is waiting for an opportunity to bring Honka on the team, and Arizona's defense is pretty much set for next year already with Ekman-Larsson, Goligoski, Murphy, Schenn, Chychrun and DeAngelo.

On a sidenote, personally, I think the Habs can get more in return of Davidsson than they would for 1-year of Emelin, at $4.1m.
