Why is TO adding an asset here? Walker is likely the Kings 4RD now has never proven to be more than a bottom pair guy and is already what 27? He's a bubble player. Kerfoot is a highly valuable and versatile player. Even with retention, which only serves to make Walker a more viable 6/7 defenceman (Who is he taking out of TO's top 6 or top 7 next year?) Kerfoot is definitely worth more than this.

Walker is not a bubble player. He's a quality puck moving defenseman. I'm not going to go so far as to say he's a top four guy on a contender, but he's a solid #4/#5 option that can run a 2PP. Nick Jensen is a good comparable.

I'm not saying he deserves a 1st round pick in return or anything, but he's not replacement level.

I’m sure he’s a fine 5D man, but the Leafs have Lily, Holl, Brodie, and (maybe) Lyubushkin who I would all take for next year over Walker on the right defence. Kerfoot is an asset they actually need, unless they get a different forward; to play all throughout the lineup. Walker is not a needed asset

LA's defense was just as good as Toronto's this season, even with all the injuries.

The defence was never a problem it was the goaltending for a bit. And the style of play differs between the team. Either way Walker played 8 games and is 27. He wouldn't make the current leafs team. Next year I don't see them wanting Walker because he makes too much. Holl is just as good for less. Liljegren is better and will make less. Kerfoot is worth a sizeable group more than Walker

Walker played 8 games because he tore his ACL and MCL in game 8 of the season, not due to some performance issues.

You can say that you don't want him because he's too old and/or expensive (I'd argue that he's a bargain for what he brings), but salary aside, he's better than both Holl and Liljegren.

So a guy who's never been able to prove he's a full time NHL player blows up his knee and somehow is still a top 4 Defenceman worth more than Kerfoot who is the same age has played more than double the games, is a good middle 6 player and can play all forward positions.

Who hasn't proved he's a full-time NHL player? Before this season, he played every game he was healthy for the past two seasons and was rewarded with a multi-year $2.65M AAV contract that was a consensus steal when it was signed.

I never said Walker was worth Kerfoot, only that he's not a "bubble player." He does play the more highly coveted RHD position though, which boosts his value on the trade market.

Walker isn't terrible but I also think calling him anything more than a depth player is a huge stretch.

Like I said above, he's a quality #4/#5 defenseman on a contender. I never advocated putting him on the top pairing. He's defensively reliable puck-moving defenseman that excels at 5v5 hockey and is a good option for a PP2 unit.

Yeah that was likely too harsh. Like he could very well be the best RD in Vancouver right now. But as a Leaf fan, I don't see him making the top 6. Especially not what we have now. And if we lose Lyubushkin in FA, there is Brodie, Holl and Liljegren on the Right side and Sandin, Muzzin and Rielly on the Left. Maybe Walker beats out Holl but maybe he doesn't Holl's underlying numbers are extremely good this season. The eye test sometimes shows some faults but he's definitely an NHL defenceman. So I guess I should be easier here. Walker is fine, but from the Leafs perspective Kerfoot holds more value. But after all this bull**** you have convinced me. Lol I could live with this.
