Description
Would a cap dump (Pominville) and retaining cap get the MIN trade done? And would 2x core players get a 1st line centre?

Minnesota deal I like. They are win now and they win that deal

Islanders no, still not enough for JT unless they know he isn't resigning

Not a bad idea with the Minnesota trade but take out the retained salaries,it wastes one of the opportunities to use that ability and it doesnt help them to both retain salary. I think it pretty fair if both teams don't because its only 0.6 mil difference and cap is going to go up. I doubt the Flyers and Islanders make that trade. They would both be trading away players that neither would ever want to face again, and Adamitis above is right on the value. I think your a little low on Ghost's money, but not too bad. The big thing is I don't think we keep Voracek if we blow up the core, he'd be one of the more likely moved players especially if your taking a salary dump back.

I think the retained salary is important as I don't think G will be moved otherwise and 7m cap is fair. I know there's only 600k difference in retined salary for the first 2 yrs but it really kicks in after pominville contract is up and G still has 3 year left on his.
JT is my preferred option but could quite happily do something with either Col for Duchene or Edm for RNH but the pieces going to those teams would be different.
As for Jake nobody is taking on him and his contract at the moment and if they do they'll be looking at a deal involving 30-50% of his cap retained, which in my eyes is to much and will be better of trying him with some brand new linemates and one's that are snipers and can put the puck in the back of the net.
Would be good to hear what MIN fans think of the trade

yeah the salary retention is awkward. I think retaining on G would be necessary, but if we are doing that then I think that they should be retaining 925k on Pominville since it would be equal to an extra roster spot that we could bring someone up.

That makes more sense to me now didn't realize the difference in term between Pom and G. I don't think we necessarily have to retain salary for Voracek we just have to negotiate that out by offering more or getting back a little less. A player like Bobby Ryan might be a fair base for a trade especially after this past season.

I don't like it for the Wild, it fubars their cap. $22m tied up in 3 players (Parise/Suter/Giroux) for the next 5 years. Granny/Nino are looking at big raises this offseason, and Zucker/Dumba next offseason should get raises. The only signifgant salaries the Wild shed is ~$4m to Vegas (Scandella/Brodin) and $6.75 (Koivu) after next year. The Wild really do need the ELC's/bridge deals of JEE and Kaprizov to offset some of the Parise/Suter/Pommer salaries in the upcoming years.

I like Giroux, and the trade is probably pretty fair value wise, they just can't take on more outside salary without dumping significantly altering the makeup of the current team. They have a pretty good team already and Koivu/Staal is a pretty good 1-2 punch for centers. Giroux probably puts up 70-80p if he was on the Wild last season.

I'd look at the trade again in a year when Koivu comes off the books, probably a Pommer buyout too at the same time.
