Can’t retain for one season only. Also doubt Colorado moves Byram and if they did it would be for Miller

Avalanche will not trade Byram or Newhook, plenty of other quality prospects and picks to make a solid deal but those two are considered roster players and have been said by joesakic himself that aren't on the table to be moved!

The draft picks would be on the other side of the trade and a 1st to get Byram from Colorado. The only way they think about a Byram trade is with Miller involved and that still seems unlikely

I don’t think you can only retain for 1 season. I believe if VAN retains, it will be for the duration of the contract. So in that case, I’m not retaining and the wouldn’t happen unless we take money back.
