Adding vets Green and Williams for next year allows the young guys to play a spot lower and learn. The folowing year Greens 6 mill, Fayne 3.6 mill, Williams 3.4 mill, Letestu 1.8 mill, Korpikoski 1mill all come off books. Leaving 15+ to sign CMD, Maroon and some bridge contracts.

I like the moves from an Edmonton perspective. Although I think the trade with FLA is a tough sell for them. To be honest though I haven't looked Florida much and not sure how deep they are at centre. If they have an abundance then maybe they make that move. Adding Green is decent, much like how they added Russell for this season... veteran presence is important. If that didn't work out any number of guys could plug-in there. One could argue maybe even by signing a UFA veteran to a 1 or 2 year deal for less than Green.

Not sure what the consensus is on Brossoit, but given how hard they leaned on Talbot all season I get the impression the coaching staff would like a new supporting cast in that #2 spot. I've long been suggesting that VAN re-sign Miller, and deal Markstrom to EDM for a mid-late round pick and a prospect.

Mike Green will easily net Detroit either a 2017 or 2018 1st round pick, Especially if Holland is retaining $2 million or so which he would do for the better pick.
