Dallas declines. I'm going to attempt to break this down player by player.
Gurianov for Kapanen - Rather have Gurianov. Both are putting up identical production. Gurianov should be cheaper on his next contract & if Dallas brings in a head coach with an ounce of offensive knowledge, with his speed & shot Gurianov still has the ability to be a 25+ goal scorer
Radulov ($1M retained) for Zucker - Both guys are dead cap at this point. Rather keep Radulov simply due to the fact that his contract is up after this season. No sense in Dallas taking on an additional year of a bad contract when they could use Radulov's expiring cap hit to go out and make a splash this offseason
Holtby for DeSmith - Both are backups at this point in their careers. Simply put, Holtby is better. It's a downgrade for Dallas to take this part of the trade. I agree that Dallas should be shopping Holtby, but 1-for-1 with DeSmith Dallas would need some kind of kicker thrown into the deal to make it worthwhile (mid round pick, decent prospect, etc.)
Hakanpaa for Blueger - Dallas is already paper thin at RD & Hakanpaa has been a good, physical bottom-4 RD for them. They already need NHL caliber RD, so I don't see why they'd trade him for a depth forward (which they have a ton of) that is currently on IR.
Dallas loses every 1-for-1 here, and for a team that's currently sitting on the playoff bubble it really doesn't make sense for them to make this kind of trade.
