If Buffalo gets league average goaltending, we are not in the bottom 10.

Look at our splits the past 2 years when NHL goalies (even bad NHL goalies) play vs minor league goalies and thats with a skeleton roster.

That pick to the wild would need to be the buffalo one, hard no on getting a late 1st and a bottom 6 wing for fiala. If it was the Florida pick then I’d want cozens. Which is likely a non starter for buffalo.

There's no way the Sabres part with a top 5 draft pick as part of this trade or probably most trades. The best of Fla or Vegas 1st...other teams that will be interested will be contenders that aren't going to be able to afford the 6+ mil Fiala will get in his new contract and their picks will also be low. If Mitts is included that's like 2 1st's which should do it. Can't see Minny wanting to take on Olofsson , he has arbitration rights...my guess is Minny wants a ELC as part of the return just for cap reasons. Not sure but maybe even Mitts' 2.5mil is not what they want to take on mattering how tight they will be to the cap.

I think teams would give up a lot for a legit 1st line wing entering his prime that (over 3 years) has played at a 70+ pt avg. long term I could see him taking like 7m for 7 years in a deal. Would that be a top 3 pick - maybe not. But more than a 29th overal pick and a 3rd line wing, definitely. That’s why I figured if it’s a 29th overal it would need a cozens or something. I don’t mind Casey, especially being a mn guy myself, but I don’t think he really loves the needle that far as a prospect or an nhler.

After this TDL Buffalo is going to have plenty of ammo, they can't sign every draft pick and I honestly think that's what Guerin would prefer a first and a elc or another pick just because of the cap situation. Reinhart brought a first and a prospect and that's where Fiala fits in. I don't think Fiala garners more than Reinhart, equal maybe but not more. I think Cozens is to high a prospect to be honest.

Look at the Sam Reinhart and Buchnevich deal. That’s what that level of winger that has 1yr to UFA costs. PB and SR are basically direct comps

Frankly, the chickens are coming home to roost in a flat cap World for those Parise and Suter contracts
