Why buyout Fayne? He's a decent RH Dman, which the Oilers are very short on. A buyout for one or both of Ference or Nikitin makes way more sense IMO.
I just think Gryba is a better, less expensive option. Ference can't be bought-out because they'd keep 100% of his cap hit (NMC), and I just think they can trade Nikitin because he only has one year left on his deal. Fayne is the most realistic option for buyout.

You can buyout a player with an NMC, the player is just given the option to go on waivers. As long as the contract wasn't signed when the player is 35+ you won't keep 100% I believe.
Also, Fayne>Gryba. The Sens don't have the D depth or the stupidity to trade away a useful defenseman for a 4th and a plug.
