Why not? They'll be rebuilding for the next few years anyways. It won't really hurt them to retain some cap the next 3 seasons for Petry.

NSH declines. They don't need Petry, certainly not for the cost of a 1st and one of the top scorers in the OHL. NSH is already one of the best defensive teams in the league. They would be more interested in scoring if there were a deal to be made.

That's probably wise, but NSH doesn't touch this offer. Way too much for Petry, who'd be NSH's #4 at best, if he rediscovers his game. Even with some retention, that contract still sucks.
