      Why would they do this?
This would not help at all for the Avs

A lot of things the Avs have done lately have done nothing for them. They're last place in the West by 30 points.

So trading their best players and franchise Center for pennies on the dollar is going to help them? Its not a good trade man,

Bennett is struggling and not looking like a top 6 player at the moment. Kylington is having a decent AHL season but chances are he will be a 2nd pairing NHL Dman once all things considered and a late first round pick in a down draft year?

      Yup thats hot value

The Hockey News Rumour Roundup referenced Jim Matheson as stating the Avs are willing to listen to offers on MacKinnon.

It's a trade that is in favor of the Flames, especially in the short term. Maybe in the long term it swings the other way, which is why there are multiple assets going to the Avs in this proposal. This is why my description clearly says "Treliving pulls another rabbit out of the hat, ala Dougie Hamilton"

Do I think the Avs trade MacKinnon? No
If they do surprise us, would they trade him for a futures package like this? Probably not.
If they did it would most likely be for a top 2 left handed defenseman, so a more "realistic" proposal from me would have been MacKinnon for Brodie.

But it's a fantasy board and I wanted to have some fun and see what the roster would look like if Treliving did the impossible again, sue me.

At least I gave value in the deal. A "Brayden Schenn circa 2012" high level center prospect, one of our best young D prospects and our highest pick we have available.

I am aware of that, and Jim Matheson is speculating based on his previous work....why would an edmonton beat writer be talking about MacKinnon to NHL execs or would they be going to him vs going to Friedmans/McKenzies, etc....its bc its low level sources at best and probably just speculation.

Thats the reason why all the Avs beat writers laughed when the looked into it and why no other NHL insider has actually looked into it. Bc Matheson has been writing about how the Avs can be like the Oilers if they do a Hall for Larsson trade. He has been harping on that narrative for a few months now.

Its been a week since Matheson first put out that piece. Why hasn't any other credible hockey coverage picked up the "reports". Or why hasn't hockey news been retweeting it. Probably bc once they actually look into t they see there is nothing but crazy Jim Matheson looking for attention again

I dont even think Brodie for MacKinnon gets the job done. Nothing against Brodie but hes too old to part with MacKinnon. You dont trade a 22 year old C in the first year of a long term contract for a 26-27 year old Dman with 3 years left on his contract. You are getting the tailing years out of TJ vs the prime years.

Seth Jones style trade is the only thing that makes sense. 21-22 year old Dman for MacKinnon of equal value and importance.

Flames probably add to Brodie to get that done, and because of age like you said. However, I disagree with you when you say Brodie is at the "tailing years". For A Dman he is just getting into his prime.

I didnt say he is at his tailing years, I said you are getting. 3 years left in his contract you are getting 29 and 30 year old Dman that you have to resign. You aren't getting the front load of his talented years, you are getting the back half when compared to the 8-10 years of MacKinnon entering those golden years till he is at that point that same point in his career as TJ is now.

Thats why The Avs are looking at moving Duchene. At 26 he doesnt fit their time line with the new young core of MacK, Rants, Zads, Jost, and Compher. By the time those guys are ready and established int he NHL he will be a 30 year old needing new contract as well. You will just be treading water at that point.

Im not really speculating at all. When Av Beat writers on twitter scoff at it and say there is nothing to to it. I will take their word over an Edmonton Journal writer who's quality of work has gone down hill that even Edmonton Oiler fans and Bloggers dont take his work seriously.

This is the same guy who said PK Subban isnt being traded so not a target for the Oilers....then boom is traded a week later. He kept on saying that he is hearing Barrie for Nugent-Hopkins last summer. I dont think he has the strongest sources
