Rychel is a minor leaguer this season because of the Leafs' depth. He won't be in the minors for the entirety of his career. And Kapanen is actually an excellent prospect. Okay, so Komarov walks at the end of the 2017-2018 season. You've still just gained two solid prospects.

No, Rychel was a minor leaguer because he had shown little in his first years as a AHLer. There is no way he could have replaced any of JVR, Hyman, Komarov, and Martin at LW. He has improved this season, especially in the second half of the year. Next year is his fourth year of pro hockey, waiver eligible. We'll really see if he is NHL ready for the Leafs, Vegas or any team next October.
