Description
Edited to protect Green instead of DeKeyser even though I think management will protect DDK.

offense is headed in the right direction; just need our D prospects to start showing up.

Assuming a protected list of:

Nielson
Zetterberg
Tatar
Nyquist
Mantha
Athanasiou
One of Abby/Helm

Green
Ouellet
Jensen

Mrazek

I think Vegas either takes Sheahan or Sproul...outside shot at one of Abby/Helm/Howard but I think we'd have to sweeten the deal for Vegas to consider them. I chose Sheahan here but this team could still be cap compliant if Sproul is taken...especially if they use some LTIR for Kronwall.

Try and deal Howard for a decent return as soon as you can. Thinking maybe WPG, CGY, DAL, but I'm not confident that he'll be moved. It's a saturated goalie market with MAF, Darling, Grubauer, etc...it's going to be tough to deal Howie.

Try and move one of or both of Abby/Helm. Getting those contracts out ASAP is a big priority. I would bet moving either is close to impossible. If you can get Vegas to take one without including top end prospects/picks, do it. I'd even consider giving Vegas one of our 3rds to take Glenny.

Assuming selling at next year's deadline, our pieces would be Green, Nyquist, and maybe a cheap depth Dman. Should get a very respectable haul to further restock the prospect/draft pick pool.

Vegas' safe pick in the expansion draft. Would prefer they take Abby or Helm but probably wont want to take on that kind of term.

Correct. You protect Green, Ouellet and Jensen, because they would never take Dekeyser on that putrid contract. If this is all that Holland can muster this offseason, just further proof that he needs to be fired ASAP.

Fair point. I protected DDK because I think management will and I'd rather lose green than either XO or Jensen. I meant to write about Green in the summary but forgot.

I can honestly tell you right now? Zero chance that Howard is on the team next season, If Vegas doesn't claim him Holland will try and move him even if there's needs to be some salary eaten or he's bought out but zero chance that Howard and Mrazek are our goalie tandem in the 2017/18 season.

As of right now for the forwards i believe that Helm, Sheahan and Glendening will be the ones exposed. Holland will protect Abby.

Do you think there's any chance (and would you even want to try?) of bribing Vegas to take a contract with more term like Helm?

It's possible if Holland offered one of our 2017 3rd round picks to Vegas for McPhee to take Helm off our hands. He's still a pretty solid 3C making $3.85 million for 4 more years maybe McPhee might be enticed to do it with the 30 players that Vegas will take they still will need to hit the cap floor so Vegas will still need to take on a few bad contracts i would assume.

I honestly think we wouldn't need to bribe them to take helm. He's a true 3rd line center making 3rd line center money. At least you know what you're getting with him. Maybe they take sheahan for she and cap. But I don't think it makes a difference for us. No reason to bribe Vegas unless we're trying to off the Ericsson contract.

Totally agree like you said unless it's a contract like Ericsson, We shouldn't really need to bribe Vegas Helm is a 3C making 3C money i could easily see McPhee taking him even without compensation.

Also. Dekeyser has had one bad year. Every other year he has been solid. I know the contract isn't anything to make you happy. But at the end of the day. He's what we have as a core part of our not so good D. Personally I protect dk green and Jensen or ouelette. I'm not convinced Detroit is the right place for sproul (maybe somewhere that gives defenders more offensive freedom) so losing him doesn't mean anything to me

Honestly i think Sproul would be a perfect fit with Edmonton and their offense.

This team is way better off losing Abby or Deke over Helm.

Respectfully, completely disagree. Abby is about our only sandpaper we have in the lineup. And we're gonna need that going forward. Somehow dk has become he new decent defensman Detroit fans decide to dump on. One bad year isn't career defining. Ken hollands bad contracts are one thing. But as far as the players go. Abby in deke far more valuable than helm in the lineup. And I like helm.

I can maybe agree with Deke, even though that salary makes me want to throw up. But Abby is a dime a dozen guy, his "physical" play is a joke, and he's basically a 4th line being paid as a 2nd liner because he's from MI. Take Abby or Luke over Helm any day.

If you look at the numbers of previous seasons and what he brings to the game other than term his contract wasn't awful. Granted most of it was playing with pav. Who I think I could've netted atleast ten goals with. He's our only true power forward. And we needed to lock that up. And I think people misinterpreted Ken hollands loyalty. It has hurt us on occasion. But I do think it's a good selling point to players knowing the loyalty of an organization.
